Maura's Google-Mouth

She’s got it all: sense of fashion, killer heels, glamour queen, quirky personality, and the ever most famous “Google Mouth.” Most of the sayings that come out of this Queen of the Dead’s mouth will leave you wondering if this quirky medical examiner even speaks English. Earning a lot of raised eyebrows and confused faces from colleagues  she is definitely one of a kind in this department.

As you watch this show, Maura will say things that might seem completely crazy and from a different universe, but it is just her medical terminology, such as an adenoidectomy, (surgical removal of a like gland), hypoglycemia, and heminephrotomy (cutting into half of your kidney). 

From watching this show, I have also learned many different “fun facts” such as the ones in the pictures below. It is pretty entertaining when you start "speaking Maura" with your friends and they have no idea what you are talking about. I like to believe that the hit series on TNT, Rizzoli and Isles, has definitely increased my IQ.

The Crime

Of course, the show would not be a "crime drama" without its crime! Every episode, the Boston Homicide Unit has a new murder to solve. Jane and Maura also work next to Vince Korsak (Bruce McGill), Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young), and Jane's brother- Frankie Rizzoli (Jordan Bridges).

The crimes also leave you on the edge of your seat. Most of the time, it is very difficult to figure out who the murderer was before they do, which is something that I like to do during the cop shows. They also make the mysteries fun and interesting to try and solve.

Whether it’s feet pounding into the asphalt streets, while chasing after a serial killer. Or the sound of handcuffs being slapped on a criminal, with the feeling of success, and sense of pride. It’s the heart wrenching moment of being held at gunpoint in a standoff that could end someone's life, the chance for an adrenaline rush, is just around the corner. There are countless hours in the field, collecting evidence, and at the office behind a desk, with a long a term partner at your side, into the late hours of the night dragging into early morning, hoping to break open a lead that edges you one step further to putting that criminal behind bars. Justice Served!

The Suspense

The suspense in this show in unbearable. Without a doubt, TNT knows how to leave you on the edge of your seat. Especially during the season one finale (in the pictures below), when Jane shoots herself to kill a murderer, I was biting my nails. 

It was too suspenseful to wait another four months for the show to return for season two. Even when it is not a season finale, the shows takes unexpected turns. This is, however, a show that you cannot pick up in the middle of a season. You need to watch it from the beginning to fully understand what is going on- and one might say that that is a negative about the show. To me, I personally like a show with a story. 

In the season two finale, Jane shoots Maura's biological father and it leaves the two on them with a rift in their friendship. I, with many other fans of the show, could not stand it when the two of them were arguing. Every minute of the episode when it returned for season three, you are wishing and hoping that they would make up already. The fighting definitely changed the entire mood of the episode.

Going away from all of the shooting, season three ended with a burning building and Jane's brother, along with another detective, were trapped inside. The episode showed them in the building and the roof above them was deteriorating. The episode ends with the two men getting scrapped and buried under the shambled property. For the season four finale, no one's life was in any danger. However, the episode ends with Jane holding a positive pregnancy test in her hands, right after her boyfriend leaving for the military again. It left all of the fans in shock and wanting more.

Besides all of the finales, the show had other stressful moments that were filled with suspense. An example of this would be when Jane was being stalked by a serial killer. Another example of this is with all of Maura's boyfriends. She is either unknowingly dating a serial killer or a psychopath, putting her life in danger. Not only with the men she dates, but she also puts her life in jeopardy with her mob boss father in the picture below.

Throughout the entire series, there are moments that leave you speechless. 

Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles: Best Friends

What makes this show truly unique is the relationship between all of the characters and how they grow together, especially the friendship between Detective Jane Rizzoli and Doctor Maura Isles. Their natural chemistry gives the series most of its humor. Jane, the tough tomboy, and Maura, the quirky fashionista, constantly but heads during every episode. Although, the differences between the two of them are what makes their friendship irreplaceable. 

In the gif below is just one of the many funny moments in Rizzoli and Isles. Jane tells Maura to listen to her gut, but the analytic medical examiner tells her that she "does not listen to her intestines." This was one of my favorite episodes back in season 2:

Winter Premiere

Rizzoli and Isles came back from hiatus last Tuesday, February 17, with a brand new episode for the winter premiere. The show is in its fifth season and has just been renewed for a season six. This series is about two best friends in a homicide team trying to solve different types of murders, located in Boston, Massachusetts. As seen in the picture below, the two main characters are Angie Harmon (Jane Rizzoli- homicide detective) and Sasha Alexander (Maura Isles- medical examiner). 

Rizzoli and Isles is known for the chemistry between the two women and the comedy with all of the characters. The show not only focuses on the crime aspects, but also on the relationships between all of the characters, making it difficult for you not to keep watching. They start out every episode by us, the audience, witnessing a murder and them immediately cut to whatever Jane/Maura is doing. Although the crimes change within every episode, the characters' lives continue to unfold as each episode progresses. What I find extremely fascinating about this show is that it is not just about the crime- it also digs deep into each character's life and reveals who they are.

During the winter premiere on last Tuesday, the episode was a continuum of the 2014 summer finale where Jane jumps off of a bridge to save the life of a key witness to her case. The show has never had two episodes for one murder, so it was really interesting how they did that. It was almost as if there was an unexpected turn of events each minute.
